Illumalife

Illumalife is a lighting system that keeps people aligned with their natural
24-hour day-night body clock known as their circadian rhythm.
The results are a more restful sleep, more alert days, and fewer falls.

In a study sponsored by the Wisconsin Department of Health & designed by Midwest Lighting Institute researchers From Harvard Medical School,

found our lighting system was shown to reduce falls in skilled nursing facilities by 43%.

What We Do

Illumalife’s patented lighting method is specifically designed for skilled nursing facilities where
residents are typically confined indoors 24 hours a day. Traditional lighting in these facilities
does not provide the right light during the day to reset residents’ circadian clocks, and that leads
to daytime napping and the inability to get a full night’s sleep. By using the right combination of
light intensity and spectra tuned for the time-of-day, Illumalife simulates the naturally occurring
cycle of light, using higher level, bluer light during the day and softer, warmer-color light in the
evenings. In addition to the published study showing a 43% reduction in falls, we consistently
find improvements in mood, reduced sundowners, reduced wandering of dementia residents, and
reduced need for psychotropic medications.

These improvements to residents’ well-being bring considerable benefits to them as well as to skilled nursing facilities, such as:

A more positive environment for residents and healthcare workers

Lowered risk of resident and staff injuries

More staff time can be dedicated to resident care

Reduced incidences of hospitalizations and readmissions

Improved census

Reduced liability and legal costs

Reduce energy consumption 50-70%

For added benefit, the Illumalife system includes wireless communication components integrated with the ONDO platform. This system incorporates sensors to provide data such as pulse rate, body temperature, breathing rate, incontinence and location of residents and equipment.
This powerful addition provides future state healthcare to residents by alerting staff of problematic situations in real time. This technology frees up staff time, reduces liability and reduces health care costs of residents by preventing long-term complications.
